Virtual Counseling Services

I provide comprehensive virtual mental health counseling for adults.

Treatment plans are strength-based, short-term, solution-focused, and most importantly - specifically tailored for you.

What does "strength-based, short-term, and solution-focused" mean?

We are all unique with different life experiences.  A variety of factors impact how we manage our complex lives and the challenges we face.  To make lasting changes and overcome challenges, we must evaluate the big picture, to include all facets of your life.  Drawing from a variety of different psychotherapy paradigms (psychodynamic, CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, attachment theory, and humanistic theory), we will partner together and use your innate strengths to enhance your self-awareness and understanding.

From the outset, we will establish goals and periodically evaluate our progress.  Ultimately, the objective is for you to make progress towards your goals, apply what you learn in our sessions into your daily life, and not feel the need to return!

STRESS

Causes of stress may include a newborn child, struggling relationships, professional challenges, infertility, COVID-19 isolation, deployment, grief, loss, and/or a recent health diagnosis.  Perhaps someone close to you has said, "Maybe you should talk to someone."

DEPRESSION

Common symptoms include low energy, loss of interest or motivation for life's passions, difficulty sleeping, sadness, and/or appetite changes.  Maybe you have had the thought, “I just don’t feel like myself.”

ANXIETY AND PANIC

Often includes never-ending worries, difficulty concentrating, catastrophic thinking, feeling "on edge", and/or having a hard time relaxing and/or sleeping.  Maybe you feel that your anxious thoughts are in control and you are just along for the ride.  Perhaps you feel that these worries are negatively impacting your profession, relationships, academics, and/or hobbies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Virtual Counseling, Online Counseling, Virtual Therapy, Online Therpay

What is virtual counseling?

Virtual counseling, also known as "online counseling" or "virtual therapy", is mental health counseling conducted through an internet based meeting platform, vice the traditional method of meeting face-to-face.

What are the advantages of virtual counseling?

Time is one of our most valuable commodities.  By eliminating commute time, parking, traffic, and other barriers, we can limit the introduction of any unnecessary stress to your counseling experience.  Virtual counseling also provides the opportunity to conduct therapy sessions from the comfort of your home or office, at a time convenient with your schedule.

How will we meet?

We will conduct our virtual counseling sessions through a HIPAA compliant and confidential video chat platform.

Do I have to physically reside in Virginia or Florida to be a client?

Yes.  Because I am licensed in the commonwealth of Virginia and the state of Florida, I can only provide virtual counseling to clients who physically reside in Virginia and Florida.  You must be physically present in either Virginia or Florida to receive therapy.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I do not.  I am an out-of-network provider.  Check with your insurance provider to see what your out-of-network benefits are.  Upon request, I can provide a "super bill" that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. I can help you navigate this process. All fees are due at the time of service.

How do we get started?

Email chrissie@collettcounseling.com, and I will respond within two business days.  We will then schedule a date and time for a quick introductory phone call to ensure that I am the best virtual therapist to meet your needs.  If so, I will provide you with all necessary intake documents that must be completed prior to your initial 90-minute consultation.  After the documents are completed and submitted, we will schedule your initial consultation and begin our work together!

How long does my therapy last?

It depends!  I recommend beginning with weekly sessions, while continuously evaluating your goals and progress.  Based on this evaluation, we may modify to biweekly or monthly sessions.  There is a common misconception that you have to be in counseling "forever."  The ultimate goal of therapy is to complete treatment and no longer need therapy!
